England win over West Indies, stepping ahead to qualify for World Test Championship.

England secured a major win over the West Indies at Trent Bridge. England batted first and gave a target of 385 runs, winning the match with 241 runs. England, with this victory, has now stepped up the ICC World Test Championship standings, they move past South Africa, Bangladesh, and the West Indies reaching sixth in the current standing. 

Match highlights 

  • England’s batting was up to the mark, Joe Root and Harry Brook both hit centuries setting the target for West Indies at 385 runs to win. Basir had a major impact on the match with his excellent bowling skills. 
  • West Indies in its response started strong as Kraigg Brathwaitescore 30 runs in 24 balls but couldn’t manage to stay strong after they lost their first wicket. West Indies quickly collapsed as Bashir started with his over.
  • Spinner Shoaib Bashir shone with his impressive skill set, finishing with 5 for 41. He took three wickets quickly, including Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge. 
  • Gus Atkinson also contributed with his excellent bowling, the bowler had an over with a double-wicket.

England in the second Test match of the series bowled out the opponent team- West Indies as early as 143 runs while they had to chase a target of 385. The batters and bowlers of England played exceptionally well, Joe Root and Harry Brook both hit centuries and Spinner Shoaib Bashir shone with his impressive skill set, finishing with 5 for 41. This gave England a major victory, with this win England had a lead of 2-0 in the three-match series with West Indies. The final match is on Friday in Birmingham.

  • West Indies on the other hand lost some important matches and is now drooped to ninth position with 22.22% win-loss percentage.
