Gautam Gambhir Begins Tenure as Head Coach with Virtual BCCI Meeting

Gautam Gambhir has recently been appointed as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team. his work has been started and his first meeting with the team’s selection committee was held indoors instead of outdoors. The continued for more than an hour and was conducted virtually.

The meeting has been scheduled by the management team of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI). Secretary Jay Shah attended the meeting and along with him were the members of Ajit Agarkar’s selection committee. Gambhir was a part of the meeting and attended it virtually from his home in New Delhi.

The main focus of this meeting was a discussion about the future of Indian cricket and the team for the upcoming white ball series in Sri Lanka. Being the responsible coach Gautam with his straightforward approach suggested the type of players he wanted. The meeting focused on having a strong commitment.

Rohit Sharma may be available to play in the ODIs in August. Despite his desire to have all the players available for every format, Gambhir should have brought up this issue during the meeting. Rohit currently enjoying a vacation in the US is expected to inform the BCCI about his availability. He will hold the captaincy if he chooses to play for the format. Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah who are currently on leave are not expected to be included in the team. It is expected that Kl Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will return. KL Rahul could be selected to lead the team in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Hardik Pandya might skip the ODIs.

It was also taken into account that who should captain the three T20s in Sri Lanka. Performing well, Hardik Pandya served as the vice-captain for the Twenty20 World Cup. However, others believe that Suryakumar might be a better option as the captain due to Hardik’s health issues and physical concerns. As of now, no final decision has been made in stone.

The Indian team will play three T20Is and three ODIs in Sri Lanka from July 27 to August 7.
