ICC to elect new Chairman- Jay Shah a strong candidate
ICC has officially initiated the election procedure for the New Chairman
The International Cricket Council has initiated the election procedure to elect a new New Chairman for the association. The committee has called for the openings with immediate effect, interested candidates are required to send in his or her nominations as early as August 27.
The election for the Chairman of ICC is itself a big event and everyone is awaiting the results, However, whether there will be an election is a million-dollar question as all eyes are on Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He is expected to be a strong contender. However, the BCCI secretary, who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), has been tight-lipped on the matter.
For the election to proceed, at least one additional candidate must enter the race and it’s not clear whether there will be a contest at all,” said an ICC source in the know of things. “It will depend on what Mr Jay Shah decides. If he files a nomination, there will be no election. He will be elected unopposed,” the source added.
Greg Barclay’s departure
Current ICC Chairman Greg Barclay has announced his retirement with the end of this term’s tenure, he has completed his 2 terms as ICC Chairman and has now mentioned that he will not continue for the third term.
