ICC Women’s World Cup 2024 Updates

The 9th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World cup is scheduled by ICC, which is to be hosted by Bangladesh from 3rd October to 20 October. This season is going to be the 9th edition of ICC Women’s T20 World cup. 

Teams and qualification for the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

The 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is an international level cricket tournament where top women’s cricket teams from different countries compete with each other. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the qualification process  for this highly anticipated event.  

Bangladesh is the host nation for the tournament which gives it the advantage of direct qualification. This is the first time 

What is the qualification process?

A total of 10 teams will compete in the tournament. Nine out of ten that participated last year in the tournament, only Ireland failed to qualify this year. Ireland has been replaced by Scortland. Scotland has qualified for the tournament for the first time after defeating Ireland.

Criteria on which teams are qualified:

Bangladesh has automatically qualified because they are hosting the event.

Pakistan  is qualified for ICC Women’s T20 World cup 2024 because of its high ranking

  1. Qualifier: 
  • Scotland
  • Sri Lanka

Participating Team 

Australia, India, New Zealand, England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Scotland, South Africa, and West Indies.

Venue 

In July 2022, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that two venues, Dhaka and Sylhet would host the matches.Dhaka will host the final, although Sylhet was originally meant to host the finals.

Warm-up matches

Before the T20 World Cup, the participating nations will compete in ten warm-up matches, which are scheduled to be played from 27 September to 1 October 2024. These matches will not have either Women’s Twenty20 Internationals (WT20I) status or WT20 status.

Recent Update about ICC Women’s World Cup 2024: 

The recent political turmoil and unrest in Bangladesh have left the International Cricket Council (ICC) contemplating its decision to host the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in the country. Although there are still 57 days left in hand before the tournament kicks off, with England taking South Africa on October 3, ICC has shortlisted India as one of the alternate venues to host the World Cup.
