Ihsanulla Janat banned by ACB for 5 years for corruption

The Afghanistan Cricket Board on Wednesday (August 7) banned Ihsanullah Janat for a tenure of five years from ‘all forms of cricket activities’ for his breaches of the ACB and ICC anti-corruption code during this year’s Kabul Premier League. The 26-year-old batter, who last represented the national team in 2022, admitted to charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities.

“Janat was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which involves improper influence or efforts to fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match,” the ACB said in a statement. “In light of this violation, he has been handed a five-year ban from all cricket-related activities.”

Ihsanullah who is the brother of veteran Afghanistan cricketer Nawroz Mangal, has played 3 Tests, 16 ODIs, and a solitary T20I for the national team. He represented the Shamshad Eagles in the second season of the Kabul Premier League, scoring  72 runs from four innings as his team finished last in the six-team standings.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board also mentioned in its statement that its Anti-corruption unit is currently investigating three other players for possible breaches of the anti-corruption code. The board will make decisions regarding their cases once their involvement is confirmed.
