India won the T20 series against Sri Lanka in Pallekele
India won the Series by 3-0 against Sri Lanka
The final match of the India vs Sri Lanka T20 series was held on 30th July at Pallekele. India secured a 3-0 win over Sri Lanka and the final match was won after playing the super over after the match ended in a tie.
India’s Inning:
Eary overs
India did not have a strong start at the beginning of the match as India initially lost some major wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Rinku Singh and then the captain himself left the field early, putting India into a critical condition. During the powerplay, it became tough for India to score wickets as by then India had scored 30 runs but lost 4 wickets.
The Middle overs helped to stretch the target.
During the middle overs, India managed to stabilize the game. With the partnership of Shubman Gill and Riyan Parag, India’s inning was saved. They scored 72 runs for the loss of one wicket in this phase with Parag hitting two sixes which were needed badly to boost the team’s overall score.
India again collapsed in death overs:
After stabilizing in the middle overs, India again stumbles in the death overs. India’s inning suffered again, scoring only 35 runs for the loss of four wickets. Wanindu Hasaranga dismissed both the batsmen who were scoring runs, he took the wickets of Shubhman Gil and Riyan Parag which again left India in a crucial state. However, Washington Sundar saved the death overs by securing 25 runs which let Inda reach a semi-decent score of 137/9.
Sri Lanka’s Innings:
Solid Start in the power play:
Sri Lanka played very confidently as their inning began. In their powerplay, they scored 35 runs without losing a single wicket. Opener Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka were set on the field very strongly, though Mendis survived an early catch as it was dropped.
Momentum while the middle overs:
Like their early overs, Sri Lanka managed their middle overs as well. They maintained their momentum and secured 73 runs for losing just one wicket. After Nissanka left the field, Perera joined Mendis and the duo again built a strong partnership, Parera played an impactful knock while Mendis supported by saving the wicket.
At this moment Sri Lanka almost won the match, and the probability for India to win was negligible. But let’s see how India made it possible with no chances left.
Collapse of Sri Lanka in the Death overs:
The Death overs proved to be “the death overs” for Sri Lanka as Sri Lanka’s chase was flattered in the final overs. Having 8 wickets to losing 7 wickets for just 29 runs was a turning point in the game.
Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Mendis.
Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku bowled the crucial final overs, the decision to give them the final overs was strange but they were extraordinary, they managed to pull the game back for India. Both Surya and Rinku took 2-2 wickets in the last overs and forced a Super over.
Super over:
Sri Lanka batted first, but the super over was not on their side as they only managed to score 2 runs in the super over.
India only needed to score 3 runs in the super-over. On the first ball played by Suryakumar, hit a four and India won the match.
