Punjab Kings to discontinue contract with Bayliss- Head coach of PK
The two-year contract of Trevor Bayliss with Punjab Kings as the Head Coach of the Punjab Kings franchise has come to an end, and the franchise is unlikely to renew the contract. Thus it is expected that after Ricky Ponting, another Australian is set to take a bow from the elite coaching group in the Indian Premier League.
The franchise might be looking for a new coach
According to some reports, Punjab Kings are considering hiring an Indian Coach in place of any foreign coach. There are several candidates that the franchise is considering, potential candidates include Sanjay Bangar who has earlier served as the coach for the franchise and is currently the director of cricket development.
The final decision on appointing the new coach is yet to be made, as a scheduled board meeting on July 22nd did not take place. The franchise is believed to have broadened its search ahead of the mega-auction later this year.
Bayliss’s Performance:
Trevor Bayliss is currently 61 and has served three different franchises. He coached Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings along with a successful stint with the England Team. decision on his retainment is yet to come. His recent T20 coaching record has been poor, with disappointing results for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sydney Thunder or be it Punjab Kings.
Under Baybliss, Punjab Kings has finished 8th and 9th in the last two seasons, despite having a strong squad.
Other Indian Coaches and Their Popularity
The success and recent achievements of Indian coaches such as Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambir, Chandrakant Pandit, and Ashish Nehra have increased their demands in IPL.
Sourav Ganguly and Dinesh Karthik are also notable Indian Coaches involved with IPL teams.
Elsewhere in the IPL, Rahul Dravid is being pursued by multiple franchises and there is a lot of attention on Mumbai Indians – vis-a-vis Mark Boucher. The Ashish Nehra-Vikram Solanki combo is also walking on thin ice at Gujarat Titans while all eyes are on Kolkata Knight Riders about who their new coaches will be following a ‘mass exit’ from the franchise to the Indian team.
Final decision:
The Punjab King franchise has not made any decision right now, it is supposed that they will review the last year’s performance before reaching on any outcome.
Although Baybliss has not yet responded to any inquiries made regarding the news.
