Ravi Shastri on Rohit Sharma’s performance and captaincy
Ravi Shastri Praised Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy and compared him with MS Dhoni.
Former Indian Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri recently talked about Rohit Sharma’s all-over performance and captaincy. Ravi Shastri praised Rohit’s captaincy, comparing his ability to make smart decisions, especially in a competitive and challenging situation to that of Former Indian Team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Ravi Shastri believed that Rohit has a keen understanding of the game and can anticipate the opponent’s move. Rohit will be remembered as one of the best captains of Team India. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India has recently won its second title of the ICC T20 World Cup, after a long break of a decade, defeating South Africa and flying the flag high in Barbados.
Ravi Shastri has compared Rohit Sharma with MS Dhoni as Rohit has surpassed Dhoni’s record by winning 47 titles in 62 matches. Dhoni, on the other hand, has won 41 matches out of 72.
Under Rohit’s captaincy, India has won eight out of nine matches in the recent ICC World Cup. That 9th match is also not lost as the winner was not declared in the game. Ravi Shastri highlighted Rohit’s calm attitude while handling serious situations and making crucial decisions at that time such as bringing key bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya at the right moment.
Rohit’s tactical acumen came to the fore during the World Cup final when South Africa required just 30 runs off 30 balls to win, as India came up with a stunning comeback to defend the total.
Pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled two tight overs, while Hardik Pandya took an important wicket when all seemed lost and Suryakumar Yadav came up with a peach of a catch to dismiss David Miller in the final over.
Rohit Sharma: A batting legend
Shastri also praised Rohit’s batting saying he is one of the best to have ever played the white-ball format.
“I think a giant in the white-ball game. One of the all-time greats. One of the best who have ever played. Will walk into any white-ball team they pick, irrespective of the era. Just because of the dynamic ability he has at the top,” said Shastri about Rohit, who bowed out of T20Is following the World Cup success.
Rohit has amassed 14,846 runs, three double centuries, 33 centuries, and 87 half-centuries in the ODIs and T20s. he has been a part of winning teams for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007 and 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.
