Mohammad Siraj and Umran Malik are expected to miss the first round of the Duleep Trophy as they are not well and recovery will take time, they are not expected to recover within the time for the start of the competition, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated in a release on Tuesday, August 27.

Apart from Siraj and Umran Malik, Ravindra Jadeja who was a part of Team B has also been released from the team. The reason for his release has not yet been announced.  Navdeep Saini will replace Siraj in the Team B squad while Gaurav Yadav has been named Malik’s replacement in Team C. Meanwhile, the participation of Nitish Reddy, who is also part of Team B, is subject to fitness. Nitish had recently been named in the India squad for the Zimbabwe series but had to be replaced as he was suffering from a sports hernia.

The Duleep Trophy will start on September 5. Team A will take on Team B at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru while Team C will face Team D at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur. Shubman Gill (Team A), Abhimanyu Easwaran (Team B), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Team C), and Shreyas Iyer (Team D) are the four captains.
