South Africa vs Afghanistan, Semi-Final 1 highlights

The 53rd match and 1st match of the semifinals of the T20 World Cup. the first semifinal round is going to be played between Afghanistan and South Africa. The match will be played at the Brian Lara Stadium on Thursday, 27th June 2024. The match will start sharp at 6 A.M. 

This match is considered to be one of the most important matches as the results will determine the first finalist of the tournament.

Both Afghanistan and South Africa are dedicated to winning the match as this win will take them closer towards the Cup. 

Afghanistan led by Rashid Khan has performed well in their last two matches and won against Australia. South Africa, on the other hand, is still unbeaten in the tournament. The team has gained victory against the United States and England. Therefore, South Africa holds more chances of winning the match but the performance of Afghanistan can not be predicted. 

Match Highlight

  • Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat first. South Africa started with a strong fielding.
  • In the first over Marco Jansen starts to attack in favour of SA. On the fifth ball, Jansen delivers a fuller ball outside off, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz edges it to Hendricks at the first slip, departing early with 0 runs scored. 
  • Keshav Maharaj bowls the second over. Gulbadin Naib starts his inning with a four down the ground. At the end of the over the score was 10/1.
  • Jansen continues in the spell. Gulbadin attempts a drive but fails at a fuller delivery. On the fifth ball of the third over, Naib is bowled by Jansen as the ball holds its line and takes out the off-stump. The over finishes at 14/2.
  • Kagiso Rabada joins the attack. Rabada’s first ball is a perfect in-swinger that bowls Ibrahim Zardan( 2 runs off 5 balls). Two balls later, he bowls Mohammad Nabi for a duck. Afghanistan struggling hard at 20/4.
  • With the 5th over, Jansen returns for his third over. After a couple of balls, Nangeyalia Kharote edges a back-of-a-length ball to de Kock. 2 runs off 7 balls. 
  • Anrich Nortje came into attack in the 7th over. Azmatuallah Omarzai hits a fuller ball and is caught by Stubbs. Afghanistan is reduced to 29/6. 
  • With the 8th over, Rabada continues the spell, and Rashid Khan hits a couple of boundaries through covers. Afghanistan reaches 38/6 as the over ends.
  • Tabraiz Shamsi is introduced in the 10th over. Karim Janat has trapped LBW after a leg-side wide and a boundary, reviewing unsuccessfully. Two balls later, Noor Ahmad is also given LBW on review, departing with a zero. The team is at 50/8.
  • Shamsi continues and dismisses Naveen-ul-haq LBW. Rashid Khan is bowled by Nortje for 8 runs off 8 balls. Afghanistan is bowled out for a mere 56 runs. 

South Africa’s Inning 

  • De Kock and Reeza Handrick open, de Kock is dismissed by Fraooqi in the second over. 
  • In the 4th over, Reeza Hendrick and Aiden Markram steady the inning, scoring the boundaries.
  • Markram in the next few overs accumulated the runs by hitting consecutive 4 and Hendrick scored a boundary off Gulbadin Naib. 
  • Reeza Hendrick finishes the match with a flurry of boundaries, South Africa wins by 9 wickets.
  • South Africa advanced to its first-ever T20 World Cup Final with a dominant performance over Afghanistan
